ERIA and BPK Collaborate to Strengthen Indonesia’s Energy Resilience
Jakarta, 5 November 2025: ERIA and the Audit Board of Indonesia (Badan Pemeriksa Keuangan – BPK) held a focused discussion titled ‘Assessment of National Energy Resilience’ at ERIA’s office in Jakarta. The event provided a platform to share insights from ERIA’s energy research and to exchange perspectives with public sector counterparts on strategies to enhance Indonesia’s energy resilience.
Opening the discussion, Mr Padang Pamungkas, Director General of Audit IV. B at BPK, emphasised the importance of identifying best practices for managing and securing national energy resilience, particularly through collaboration between policymakers, regulators, and research institutions.
Dr Alloysius Joko Purwanto, Energy Economist at ERIA, introduced the institute’s ongoing work in the energy sector, including initiatives under the Asia Zero Emission Center. He noted that the Center supports the region’s decarbonisation goals by promoting clean energy solutions that sustain economic growth while ensuring energy security.
This was followed by two presentations from Dr Nuki Agya Utama, ERIA’s Director of Energy Policy and Head of the Asia Zero Emission Center, titled ‘Bridging the Gap: Energy Transition Plans vs. Reality’ and ‘Powering ASEAN’s Future.’ Dr Nuki examined energy policies across Indonesia, ASEAN, and the wider Asian region, focusing on regulatory and governance frameworks essential for national energy resilience. He presented projections of energy supply and demand, discussed opportunities and challenges in Indonesia’s energy development – particularly in the oil and gas sector – and outlined policy recommendations to strengthen energy security and promote a just and sustainable transition.
The event concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing participants to exchange insights on Indonesia’s pathway toward achieving a balanced, secure, and low-carbon energy future. Through this engagement, ERIA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting public institutions in developing evidence-based, regionally adapted energy policies and fostering collaboration for a resilient and sustainable energy landscape.
