ERIA Showcases Low-Emission Industrial Park Concept at Singapore International Energy Week 2025

Singapore, 30 October 2025: ERIA presented its latest insights on ‘Advancing Low-Emission Industrial Parks’ during a roundtable hosted by the University of California, Berkeley and the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Hub for Innovation and Energy (a SHINE), held on 30 October as part of the Singapore International Energy Week (SIEW) 2025. The session highlighted ERIA’s continued efforts to support ASEAN’s transition towards sustainable, carbon-neutral growth through evidence-based policy research and regional co-operation.

Dr Weerawat Chantanakome, Senior Policy Fellow at ERIA, outlined the institute’s strategic research programmes on energy transition, industrial decarbonisation, and market integration. He emphasised that developing low-emission industrial ecosystems – such as the Green Special Economic Zone (SEZ) initiative in Cambodia – can serve as replicable models for attracting green investment and demonstrating practical pathways towards net-zero industry. The project engages both government and private developers from Cambodia and Japan to design a scalable framework for low-carbon industrial development across Southeast Asia.

Dr Chantanakome also highlighted ERIA’s broader contributions to regional decarbonisation, including its studies on the ASEAN Power Grid, the development of voluntary carbon markets under the ASEAN Capital Market Forum (ACMF), and collaboration with the Asia Transition Finance Study Group (ATF SG). He underscored that deeper regional integration, transition finance, and innovative policy frameworks – accounting for digitalisation, AI, geopolitical shifts, and energy security – are essential to ensure that ASEAN’s economic zones evolve into sustainable and competitive low-emission hubs.
