ERIA Strengthens Regional Healthcare Co-operation at the 22nd CII Health Summit in New Delhi
New Delhi, 11 November 2025: ERIA participated in the 22nd CII Annual Health Summit 2025 in New Delhi, India, under the theme ‘Adding Life to Years in the Age of Artificial Intelligence’.
The summit started with a plenary session titled ‘Healthcare at the Cutting-Edge’. India’s healthcare landscape is transforming rapidly, powered by digital innovation, medical technology, and a thriving start-up ecosystem. Dr Shubnum Singh, Principal Advisor-Healthcare at Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), moderated the panel, which featured the following speakers:
- Dr Naresh Trehan, Chairman of CII Steering Group on Health and Healthcare Council, and Chairman and Managing Director of Medanta – The Medicity
- Ms Suneeta Reddy, Managing Director of Apollo Hospitals
- Dr Kenji Shibuya, Chief Executive Officer of Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ)
This session concluded with the signing ceremony of a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between CII, ERIA, and MEJ.
Dr Singh also moderated the ‘2nd Medical Excellence India Seminar: Showcasing Japan Healthcare Innovations - Business Presentations’. Dr Takayuki Yamanaka, Chief Operating Officer of ERIA, delivered opening remarks highlighting the significance of the institutional partnership between CII and ERIA. The tripartite MoU marked an important milestone in strengthening the healthcare systems of India, Japan, and the wider Asian region under the Medical Excellence in Asia initiative spearheaded by ERIA. Dr Yamanaka also underscored public–private partnership (PPP) as a key driver of healthcare industry development in the region, allowing for more equitable access to healthcare services.
During the seminar, eight Japanese companies out of a total of 20 exhibitors presented innovative and pioneering products and services addressing emerging health concerns in the region. In closing, Mr Takashi Ariyoshi, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Japan in India, highlighted the shared values between India and Japan. He added that the CII–ERIA–MEJ MoU reflects a joint commitment to developing the medical sector through PPP and deepening partnership for sustainable growth.
India’s care economy is entering a transformative phase as the country prepares to meet the needs of its rapidly ageing population with compassion and innovation. A special plenary session titled ‘Care Economy Ka Naya Daur: Empowering Senior Care’ explored strategies to empower caregivers, strengthen healthcare delivery, and build an inclusive care ecosystem for older persons. Speakers emphasised the importance of valuing caregivers, leveraging technology for family-centred care, and addressing gendered challenges such as the high number of widowed women.
With the share of older people expected to rise from 3% today to 20% by 2047, India faces both a challenge and an opportunity: to create skilled care workforces, expand health and wellness centres, and integrate preventive measures such as nutrition, physical exercise, and mental health support. Industry leaders and policymakers highlighted the potential of PPP, research investment, and cultural models rooted in empathy and purpose. The dialogue emphasised that older adults should not only live longer but live better – healthy, active, and engaged – while contributing meaningfully to society.
Ageing in Asia has always carried deeper meaning, rooted in wisdom, respect, connection, and shared responsibility. During the session ‘CII-ERIA Fireside Chat on Asian Values in Ageing: Building Dignity, Connection, and Community’, ERIA’s Dr Manami Uechi and Dr Sarah K. Abe explored how Asian societies can draw on these values and traditional spirituality to shape inclusive and compassionate ageing frameworks. Moving beyond longevity, the discussion focused on promoting active and healthy ageing as a life-course journey that begins with the youth, strengthens intergenerational bonds, and nurtures communities where every older person can live with dignity and purpose while being valued and respected.
