Manila, 30 April 2026: During his official visit to Manila, ERIA President Tetsuya Watanabe paid a courtesy call on Sharon S. Garin to discuss ERIA’s ongoing study on joint oil stockpiling, following the call by Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. at the AZEC Plus Leaders Meeting.

The ERIA President also briefed Secretary Garin on ERIA’s presentation at the Special ASEAN Economic Coordinating Council (AECC) Meeting held earlier that morning, which addressed regional energy security challenges and outlined ERIA’s proposed policy responses. Secretary Garin expressed appreciation for ERIA’s continued support to the Philippines, noting its timeliness as the region faces increasing pressure to respond collectively to energy disruptions stemming from the war in the Middle East.

ERIA remains committed to supporting ASEAN in navigating current challenges and strengthening regional resilience through practical and forward-looking policy co-operation.
