Enhancing Green Digital Finance in Cambodia
Project Overview
This study explores the emerging field of Green Digital Finance (GDF) in Cambodia, where digital technologies are increasingly integrated with green finance to drive sustainable growth. GDF combines environmentally focused investments with digital platforms such as mobile banking, blockchain, and fintech applications to promote inclusivity, transparency, and efficiency in financing green projects.
Cambodia's rapid adoption of digital finance, exemplified by platforms like Bakong, together with the development of green policy frameworks, provides fertile ground for innovation. Potential applications include blockchain for transparent tracking of green investments, AI for environmental risk assessment, and digital green bonds to mobilise capital for renewable energy and climate-resilient infrastructure.
The study highlights both opportunities and challenges, such as bridging the digital divide, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and ensuring data security. By fostering public—private partnerships and aligning with ASEAN frameworks, Cambodia can develop a robust GDF ecosystem, positioning itself as a regional leader in sustainable finance and supporting its carbon-neutral development goals.
